kiyv academy of circus "lyalka" (UA)
14.8.2023 I 8.00 pm
"Lyalka" is a circus show presented by some of the most talented young artists from Ukraine. In cooperation with the Kyiv Academy for Circus and Performing Arts, the show project reunites a group of eight performers who had been evacuated from Kyiv to Berlin and Budapest in spring 2022. The show is directed by the academy’s head choreographer Gulnara Savenko. |
Length: approx. 60 minutes
From age of 8 Language: No language |
The performance starts with toys coming to life in a child's room, representing a universal childhood dream. LYALKA, meaning "doll" in Ukrainian, explores the journey of growth and independence. The protagonist, Lyalka, struggles with expectations and manipulations from her surroundings.
Acrobatics, dance, and physical theatre convey the story of the performance and create strong metaphors and messages of hope and self-empowerment: by severing the strings that bind, one can surpass limitations and flourish.
This message not only reflects the artistic journey depicted on stage but also echoes the real-life experiences of the young performers who were uprooted from their familiar environment due to the war in Ukraine. Inspired by their resilience and determination, LYALKA aspires to create a more universal narrative. By employing the metaphor of the doll, the show allows for interpretation and identification, inviting the audience to reflect on their own struggles and triumphs.
LYALKA showcases the power of art to transcend adversity, merging acrobatics, storytelling, and an underlying message of resilience and self-discovery. Don't miss this extraordinary performance.
