work in progress
14.8.2023 I 6.00 pm
During this work-in-progress evening, artists show parts of their unfinished work!
After each presentation, the artists have ten minutes on stage to ask their questions - to you! With this format, we want to support artists in their creation process and offer them the opportunity for valuable exchange and feedback, as well as a stage for the presentation of their work before the premiere. |
Length: 2 pieces, each around 20 minutes + 10 minutes talk
From 10 years Language: English talk |
dora komenda "konstrukt" (HR) - finalist of circusnext
Konstrukt speaks about failure and dealing with wrong choices. Aerial equipment in the show is altered with a couple of invisible interventions so it becomes fragile, unsafe and unsuitable for use. The characters keep trying to perform and invest their efforts into a battle long lost. Ultimately they face a question – how to deal with failure? Acceptance, giving up, stubbornly defying to the point of exhaustion, or a deus ex machina that rescues us all from this curse by a supernatural force, because no solution grounded in reality is possible. Dora Komenda is an architect and self-taught circus artist from Split, Croatia. In 2015 she achieved a master’s degree of architecture and simultaneously discovered circus, developing in both disciplines ever since. Her portfolio of performances, shows and multimedia exhibitions is rich in collaborations with architects, musicians, visual artists and animators. Since 2018. she has worked as an artistic director in Cirkus Kolektiv, and in 2021 she founded the architectural office Kolektiv tri along with two partners. |
alice rende "fora" (BRA) – laureate of circusnext
Forced to contort herself to adapt to a too narrow space, she decides to escape. Once outside, the twists remain like an echo in her body. Between fear, pleasure and surprise, she continues to defy her invisible walls. ‘Fora’ means outside in is portuguese, catalan, occitan, sardinian… In this solo the contorted movement is a desperate strategy against domination and a homage to those who misfit. After studying at the National Circus School of Brazil, Alice Rende participated in the creation of “Silenzio” directed by Roberto Magro. She then pursued a professional formation at Lido and created her first solo “Passages”. Besides working as artist and creator, she pursued a Master and a Doctoral research in performing arts at the University of Rio de Janeiro, using the narration of circus experiences as a departing point to write about thematics such as the idea of difference, the politics of the body, the transformation, the vertigo. |
"Konstrukt" is a finalist and "Fora" a laureate of circusnext 2022-23.
