giving and receiving feedback – inspired by the "DasArts" Method
The art of giving and receiving feedback
Dieser Workshop wird ausschließlich in Englisch gegeben.
"Feedback needs to be like a desire, something that you long for. It ought to be useful to the next steps in a process"
Barbara Van Lindt
The aim of this workshop is to develop a new way of thinking about feedback in order to better communicate and receive criticism. Feedback givers will learn how to better identify their needs and opinions and how to communicate this to artists in a way that will be easy to receive and be of use to them in order to further their work. Artists will learn how to listen and receive criticism and how to prevent their personal feelings from obscuring their ability to do so.
To begin the workshop all participants will receive an introductory lecture explaining in detail the aims and processes of the method. Over the subsequent days you will use these processes in feedback sessions on several performances of the workshop there will be several performances followed by feedback sessions guided by a moderator. By adhering to strict guidelines and forms of speech during the workshop participants will achieve a clearer level of communication and maximise the amount of useful information generated. By the end of the workshop participants will be left with the tools to take these principles with them and incorporate them into their artistic vocabulary.
The methods employed in this workshop are inspired by the DasArts feedback method originally developed in the Acadamy of Theatre and Dance, in collaboration with the philosopher Karim Benammar, at Amsterdam university of the Arts, for their performing arts masters program which is now called DAS Theatre. While trying to preserve the original principles of the DasArts method, the methodology of this workshop has been adapted and developed to fit the circus context through several years of use in Die Etage circus school in Berlin.
You will follow and feedback a residency by Carmen Küster, have five feedback session from your small group and you will watch 8 shows at the Berlin Circus Festival.
