Meet the artist with yotam Peled

With the 3rd Festival we have created this new format, in which a single artist is at the center of the attention.
With Meet-the-Artist, we create a moment where the artists can personally introduce themselves. We want to break the classical artist - spectator relationship and open new perspectives and possibilities of exchange. In an intimate and protected setting, artists can present their work, explain their background and thoughts or even try a new approach to conveying their artistic idea. We invite an artist to shape this moment freely – a Carte Blanche, a white sheet. As a festival, we want to provide the place and the setting, but do not dictate the final how and what. Whether as a lab, a panel discussion or a presentation, the artists are free to decide how they want to present their work and take us on this journey as spectators. A 30-40 minute TED-like talk, the inspirational bar talk with a stranger, or a look through the keyhole into another world. We are just as excited as you are! This year we welcome Yotam Peled, whom we support within the frame of the Circus Re:Searched project. He asks: "How can performance arts be a reactive political force in today's reality? What is the unique ability and advantage the body has in carrying a conceptual dialogue? where does science meet circus and dance, and why is it so important? Join me as I share insights, questions and dilemmas from my research for an upcoming creation process, focusing on the origins of mankind, social structures, and our potential role as body artists in a dystopian future." Yotam Peled has practiced since childhood fine arts, athletics, and Capoeira. At the age of 21, he began dancing, and later on pursued higher education in contemporary circus. in 2015 he relocated to Berlin, and since then he has been working as a freelance performer with several European choreographers, among them Maura Morales, Yann L'hereux, Troels Primdahl, Jill Crovisier and Mitia Fedotenko. He has been creating his own award-winning work which was presented in festivals and venues in Israel, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and Vietnam. Yotam’s main research topic is the relations between gender roles, sexual identity and power structures in modern society, which he uses choreographed, highly physical movement to explore. His first ensemble work ‘Entropia’ was created as part of project ‘THINK BIG’ - a collaboration of the city opera of Hanover and TANZtheater International festival. In August 2019 his new creation ‘ALPHA’ will premiere in Trauma bar und kino, Berlin. Yotam is a guest teacher in several dance and circus institutions in Europe and teaches the workshop SOFT ACROBATICS at Berlin Circus Festival this year. www.yotampeled.com |
