Soft acrobatics
What are contemporary acrobatics to me? Risk taking, breaking the form, implementing virtuosity in flow, exploring the maximum but using the minimum necessary.
In this workshop we will learn and practice key elements in my research and way of moving today: Moving efficiently on the floor, differentiating between movement that is controlled and uncontrolled and isolating different parts of our body in order to generate movement.
Jump, slide, spiral, gather, release will all become part of our common vocabulary. We will find ways to approach difficult movement with ease, with proper tools to make our energy soft and efficient.
The seminar will go through physical preparation to acrobatic work, introduction of advanced maneuvers and elements of floor acrobatics, balance, strength, flexibility, mobility, conditioning, implementing acrobatics in movement and creating sequences, learning movement phrases, and partnering work. Through practicing choreographed material and improvising we will explore different textures, enrich the physicality of our body, and deepen our understanding of different dynamics and musicality.

Yotam Peled has practiced since childhood fine arts, athletics, and Capoeira. At the age of 21, he began dancing, and later on pursued higher education in contemporary circus. in 2015 he relocated to Berlin, and since then he has been working as a freelance performer with several European choreographers, among them Maura Morales, Yann L'hereux, Troels Primdahl, Jill Crovisier and Mitia Fedotenko. He has been creating his own award-winning work which was presented in festivals and venues in Israel, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and Vietnam. Yotam’s main research topic is the relations between gender roles, sexual identity and power structures in modern society, which he uses choreographed, highly physical movement to explore. His first ensemble work ‘Entropia’ was created as part of project ‘THINK BIG’ - a collaboration of the city opera of Hanover and TANZtheater International festival. In August 2019 his new creation ‘ALPHA’ will premiere in Trauma bar und kino, Berlin. Yotam is a guest teacher in several dance and circus institutions in Europe. www.yotampeled.com |
