This year an incubator will take place during the Berlin Circus Festival in cooperation with Zirkus ON. The aim is to redefine the frequently used format of the pitching session as a creative think tank or incubator with a focus on exchange and support. In a protected setting, artists are given the opportunity to present their creations away from classic presentation formats and to exchange ideas with the participants on an equal footing.
Organisers, professionals, artists, the public and other actors from the performing arts scene are invited. The participation is limited to 20 guests. The Incubator will be held entirely in English. German speaking support is available for questions. |

projects
- Zirkus ON
Zirkus ON is being funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the German Federal Association of the Independent Performing Arts's programme "Verbindungen fördern".
- GIREVIK Roman Skadra | www.romanskadra.com | Zirkus ON 2020/21
- Girevik is a circus creation using kettlebells with a total weight of 350 Kg. The work focuses on the relationship between my body and the heavy equipment and explores the intersection between object manipulation, weightlifting and choreography.
Cécile is the new creation of the trio of Sinking Sideways with dance acrobats Xenia Bannuscher, Dries Vanwalle and their new team member Raff. They work around the intersection of acrobatics and dance, with complex partitions of woven movement scores between minimalism and virtuosity.
KALEIDING Lily Schlenker, Janick Kremer | www.zirkus-on.de/lily-janick | Zirkus ON 2022/23
Kaleiding will be the debut of the contemporary circus company Lily&Janick. The piece is a play between light, reflections and new perspectives on dance acrobatics. This movement research is supported by a large mirror lying on the floor. The reflecting bodies create images that hypnotize - like looking at an everyday situation through a kaleidoscope. This distorted reality invites to dive into a decelerated world, where down is up and up is down.
THE SPHERE | www.thesphere.as
THE SPHERE is a 3-year Creative Europe project that aims to reshape the way performing arts are funded. It aims to use new governance processes enabled by distributed ledger technologies (blockchain) to enable all members of a cultural community to become co-owners and actively participate in decision-making at every stage of the creation process.
As the main partner of The Sphere, the Berlin Circus Festival is responsible for the holistic implementation of the processes in artistic research and creation. The Sphere tests innovative formats of participation and cooperation as well as digital cultural mediation and knowledge transfer.
C8H11NO2 ROOM 100 | www.room100.org
C8H11NO2 is an intense, oppressive performance about schizophrenia and the body. Strung out between the visceral and the unreal, the artwork and reality, past events rise to the surface and slowly dissolve in an atmosphere of peaceful terror. There is no center here, no mystery, just an endless series of layers to peel back, movements to repeat, spaces to enter.
Initiative Feminist Circus
The Feminist Circus Initiative campaigns for an open, safe and discrimination-free circus scene in Germany, helping to create more awareness for (still) existing patriarchal and power-abusing structures in all areas of the circus scene and to contribute to their dissolution. In the current initial phase, the initiative is looking for a suitable structure and working method, as well as networking with people with similar concerns, in order to jointly develop strategies for more inclusion, respect and sensitivity.
