work in progress
14.8.2023 I 6.00 pm
During this work-in-progress evening, artists show parts of their unfinished work!
After each presentation, the artists have ten minutes on stage to ask their questions - to you! With this format, we want to support artists in their creation process and offer them the opportunity for valuable exchange and feedback, as well as a stage for the presentation of their work before the premiere. |
Length: 2 pieces, each around 20 minutes + 10 minutes talk

Amer and Àfrica are two Catalan circus artists, that share with us "Envà", a circus performance fuelled by impressive acrobatics and contagious humour. Surrounded by a dozen bales of straw, they are moving, running and flying over them, exploring the peculiarities of human relationships. Traveling from intimacy to the outside, through honesty Envà offers an allegory to the mental walls that imprison us. ENVÀ (in Catalan) is a thin wall that serves to separate spaces. Amer & Àfrica playfully compose and recreate the stage and the space around them: They build walls to knock them down right away, meeting each other and the audience in complicity and a joy that spills over to everyone, while linking breath-taking hand to hand circus with ease to a stunningly authentic approach, humour, emotion, innovation and beauty. After seeing them in 2018, we've been trying to find a date every year and couldn't be more happy to welcome the two artists to Berlin in their last season, before starting new creations. Both artists have performed together and separately in various performance all over Europe and are bringing their unique style to Berlin for the first time. "[9]" is shortlisted company of circusnext 2020-21. circusnext is the European platform, which is dedicated to the promotion of artists in the field of contemporary circus. Since 2019 the Berlin Circus Festival is platform member and supports yearly two selected projects. The WIP evening is supported by the "circusnext platform", which is co-financed by the Creative Europe Programme of the EU. |
