sustainability |
In times of climate change, we at Berlin Circus Festival want to develop more sustainable alternatives that enable us to experience art and culture together.
Step by step, we want to focus more on sustainability and ecological responsibility. Some changes have already been implemented, and further measures are in the planning stage. You can find our current and future goals here:
Mobility & transportation
Unfortunately, an international festival cannot be realized without travel. Nevertheless, we strive to reduce the number of flights taken by our companies and to enable more travel by train. In addition, we work with other festivals to coordinate sustainable tours and transport solutions for the companies. During the festival, we attach great importance to traveling mainly by bicycle or public transport – car journeys are avoided as much as possible.
Print products
In addition to gradually reducing printed materials, we ensure that those that are still needed are printed on environmentally friendly paper and with non-toxic inks, ideally certified with the “Blue Angel” label. Since our founding, we have been working with “Umweltdruck Berlin” to keep delivery routes as short and efficient as possible.
Our merch is produced fairly and sustainably in Europe.
Materials
All structures on the festival grounds, including the bar, grandstand, and restaurant, are (re)built each year by our crew using sustainable materials. We take special care to reuse existing materials and store them in a weather-protected location outside of the festival period.
Food & drink
Our catering is provided by a local supplier. We completely avoid disposable cardboard or plastic products both backstage and in the restaurant. Instead, we use only porcelain tableware to avoid waste. Our drinks also come from a regional supplier – most of them are served in returnable bottles.
