“meer, Meer, MEER” is a free and contemporary adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale “The Fisherman and His Wife.” It is the story of a woman and her fisherman who catch an enchanted fish that grants wishes. The fisherman and his wife enjoy and abuse it, with no limits to their wishes: pots in abundance, a new car, and even more “brols” (*Belgian word: objects of little to no necessity, junk)—more, more, more! Until, in the end, they are left with nothing, because wanting too much has consequences. LaMule (*French for “the mule”) has embarked on the path of fairy tales and explores contemporary issues: In times of overconsumption, fast food, and packaging trends, LaMule sticks its snout in and composes: a score balancing body and sound, manipulation, tension, repetition—a language to express our insatiable urge for more, more, more! “meer, Meer, MEER” is an invitation to laugh, marvel, and reflect. |
