"Ikuemän" is a powerful circus piece for five performers, a hypnotising ritual about friendship, community and finding your personal home. A circle of five poles becomes the breathtaking space where the artists perform seemingly weightless with poetic virtuosity. Continuosly moving, like a nomadic tribe, the artists draw the audience into a compelling trance, telling a moving story about what is best in us and what makes us human. Their metaphoric plunge into the unknown questions the consequences of human movement in our globalized world. Disorientation, uprooting, assimilation of a new language, evolution of cultural and religious identities: for some these changes awaken fear, for others, hope. "Ikuemän" is a beautiful cry to life, in which the stunning, poetic acrobatics and irresistible visuals create an unyielding pull that releases the audience only well after the piece. The performance is based on the life of its director Rafael de Paula, born in Brazil, exiled to the United States and living now in France: „Art should be the mirror and the sensitive trace of an era.“ "Ikuemän" is the third piece by Rafael de Paula and his Compagnie du Chaos, with which they blur the boundaries between circus, dance, performance and visual arts and shape a unique individual style. |
