Two people, some planks, ropes—and a piece of grass. Suddenly on stage, the grass flies through air, is rolled, tossed and bent—yet never breaks. With disarming playfulness, Circus Katoen transforms everyday objects into a performance full of fantasy and acrobatics about nature’s resilience and the human urge to shape, shift, and control. The two acrobats turn the stage with simple materials and extraordinary physical precision into a space of fantasy and stunning acrobatics. “Grasshoppers” is a sensitive circusperformance about relationships, empathy and responsibility – and an appeal to appreciate nature. Circus Katoen, based in Belgium, has been developing their distinct style of visual circus since graduating from Codarts in Rotterdam. With a focus on natural materials, ecological awareness, and simple aesthetics, they’ve performed widely across Europe and received acclaim as laureates of CircusNext. We’re thrilled to welcome them with Grasshoppers—a quiet triumph of creativity, care and craft. |
