FestivalFriends FAQ

become a festivalfriend
Dear FestivalFriends and those who want to become one!

If you have registered and are now wondering why you are now on substack, what this hypersub is, where you can find your wallet, and where you can find all the FestivalFriends benefits again ....

You have come to the right place. In the FAQ, we answer the most important questions. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to contact us directly by email: [email protected]

CONTRIBUTIONS
1. What do the membership tiers mean?

To become a Festival Friend, you can choose between three yearly membership tiers: Festival Friend Light (50 €), Festival Friend Regular (100 €), and Festival Friend Plus (150 €).

All tiers include the same benefits. The different price levels allow individuals to choose the membership amount that best fits their situation. The membership is a paid subscription that provides access to defined festival content, invitations, and participation opportunities organised by the Berlin Circus Festival.

2. How are membership fees used?

Membership fees form part of the festival’s overall operating revenue. They contribute to the realisation of the Berlin Circus Festival programme, including artist residencies, rehearsals, and productions that are curated and organised by the festival itself. All artistic projects are selected, commissioned, and contracted directly by the Berlin Circus Festival. Membership fees are not earmarked for individual artists, and we do not collect or distribute funds on behalf of third parties.
BlOG
1. What is the FestivalFriends newsletter and what is the blog?

Once a month, we provide insights into artistic work processes, curatorial decisions, production realities, and the questions that accompany each festival edition on our blog. As soon as a new blog post goes online, you will receive a newsletter in which you can also read the contribution. In addition, you can always find the latest blog posts on the membership page.

2. What is Substack, which opens when I want to read the blog posts?

Our blog posts are published via Substack. At the same time, the newsletter is also sent out via the platform. We chose this solution because Substack was developed precisely for this purpose. It is a platform that enables authors, journalists, and creative professionals to publish newsletters, blogs, and multimedia content such as text, audio, or video directly to their audience without relying on traditional publishers or advertising.

Our Substack account is private. This means that only selected subscribers have access to our content. In this case, that's you, the FestivalFriends.

3. Why do I have to register for substack and how do I do this?

When you register as a FestivalFriend, your email address is automatically stored as a subscriber address in our Substack account. When you visit our Substack blog, all you have to do is log in with the same email address. Substack will then send you a verification code by email, after which you will be able to read the content.

4. What is the Supporter Newsletter?

We send the Supporter Newsletter to you and our supporter community at irregular intervals. In it, we provide information about news directly related to the festival and publish requests for new team members, volunteers, hosts, and other opportunities to get involved.

The Supporter Newsletter is not connected to Substack.
ACTIVITIES
 1. What are the FestivalFriends activities?

Throughout the year, we offer various activities that you can participate in exclusively as FestivalFriends. These include joint visits to other circus events, invitations to work-in-progress showings, a joint visit to the Berlin Circus Festival including a tour and contextualized introduction to the program, and our program release event.

2. How do I find out about these events?

We regularly report on upcoming events in our blog. On the membership page, you will also find an overview of all currently planned events and activities.

3. How can I participate?

In the blog posts and on the membership page, you will find a registration button for each event. There you can easily register and you will then receive a confirmation from us as well as all the important information.
HYPERSUB
1. Why am I redirected to Hypersub when I want to register as a FestivalFriend?

We initially use Hypersub simply as a payment system. You can pay your contribution there as usual by card and, in theory, you will never have to visit this page again.

However, if you are curious and would like to learn more about it, we would like to invite you to take a closer look.

2. What is Hypersub?

Hypersub is a digital payment system on the blockchain. You can think of it like PayPal or a shared cash register, only without a bank. It is a kind of digital joint account that allows money to be sent and managed directly, transparently, and without a middleman.

3. Why do you use Hypersub?

We use Hypersub because it is simple, fair, and particularly well suited for groups. It works like a digital money pool for friends without a bank.

4. What is a wallet?

Your wallet is created automatically when you register as a FestivalFriend and pay your contribution. A wallet is your digital purse. It is used to store digital money and allows you to send, receive, and manage money. The contribution you pay for FestivalFriends is first stored in your wallet and forwarded from there.

5. What are drops?

Drops are automatic rewards or distributions of content or credits. As a FestivalFriend, for example, you will also find all blog posts in your wallet. Occasionally, there are also special drops that appear exclusively there and with which you can receive a little special surprise in the real world of the Berlin Circus Festival.
